Christmas, edits and heading home

December 26, 2006 by Melissa · 1 Comment

Well, we had a great Christmas. Les got me one of the fancy smancy coffee makers where it grinds the beans for you:) I love it. The girls had a great time with everything they got, as did our dog who has apparently enterned her second puppyhood-messing with presents, playing with paper. She’s fifteen years old and has been going a senile for a few months. Unfortunately, her back legs are now giving her trouble and causing her tremendous pain(from what I can tell). That was the only sad spot on Christmas. I know this was her last with us and even though I know she is in pain and needs to be put down, it is really hard. I was pregnant with my older daughter when we adopted Shelby from the ASPCA in Sumter, SC.  She has always been my baby, and it tore me apart leaving her with my mom when we went to Hawaii. I knew she wouldn’t make the trip.

I worry about how the girls are going to take it. Our oldest of course is attached to her, but able to understand why we have to do it. Since we didn’t have Shelby with us when the younger was born, it took her awhile to warm up to her, and has just now started paying more attention to her. I know we will be facing the decision how soon we need to do it when we return.

Which is my other bit of news. We are heading to visit family and will be back later this week. I am hoping to squeeze a retreat in this weekend with the gals I dedicated Grace Under Pressure to. And, I am finishing up the edits for A Little Harmless Sex to get back to Sasha:)

So, busy work, travel and drink er…retreat scheduled this week.

I hope you all had a great Christmas.

And just to add to the Christmas Cheer

Yesterday, the head of the Veteran’s Board said it was a good thing to start the draft. He later said he didn’t mean it, but then there is this story.

You got young kids in college or high school? I’d watch this story carefully. There is a reason they dumped it right before Christmas. No one is paying attention. There aren’t any more troops to send, but the President is ignoring his Generals and pushing ahead with the plan. Oh, yeah, I know a few of them lost their balls and said they didn’t mean it.

Are you seeing a pattern here?

And then, the world exploded

I need a soak

Or it felt like it yesterday. Les is TDY in DENVER. Yep, he’s stuck there with no way to return. To top it off, apparently United Airlines doesn’t care if you are on official orders, or that he has to get back to the base, and refused to give him a ticket until Christmas. Yep, United so care about our military folk, that we had to purchase a ticket to get him home for Christmas. I won’t fly them ever again after this. When he tried to pay the difference for the ticket I then purchased for him, they told him to take a flying leap. so, with all my traveling, they are off my list. I understand that everyone is in the same situation, but I thought that being on orders to be somewhere would count. Apparently not with United.

so, then the day got worse. My parents got here, which is not bad, lol. But during the day, my 15 year old dog went completely over the senile edge and is in a lot of pain at the moment. We are facing the fact we are going to have our last Christmas with her. Then, when my four year old, E, flushed the toilet last night, it exploded, overflowed. She was by herself and it scared the hell out of her. So, I get her calmed down, get both her and A, the eleven year old into bed, and then A throws up on E. All over the bed, in her hair, on her arms. So first the toilet exploded then her sister. Poor E, it was traumatizing.

So, we are lucky that we have the money to pay to get Les home where a lot of other people don’t. Les was also lucky that United cancelled their flights very early and blocked off rooms for their customers so he has a room to sleep in. I will feel better when he is finally home on Christmas eve.

I am off to go shopping for stuff while my folks are here, and I need to get my mom into Bath Junkie(I hooked her too).

Shopping and writing

Well, I have to hit the commissary today. I really hate shopping for groceries. Mainly, because there are people there. Ha!

No, when you have two kids trudging along with you and within five minutes they start one of the “will you stop touching me” type fights, it makes it so unappealing. In Hawaii we lived across the street and I would just walk over every day and shop. And now, usually, I can go by myself when the demon seeds are in school. With them out, Les TDY and my parents coming tomorrow, I have to go shopping with the girls.

Then at some point I have to find time to write. I was having problems with one particular scene and I just jumped out of it and moved on. For me, a scene that is bothering me can hold up a book for weeks, so I have learned to move along and come back. I did that with A Little Harmless Sex and I think it worked.

Speaking of that book, I should get my first edits back this week. :::biting nails::::. I hope Sasha liked the new version. Kally got a peek at it and she liked it, so I hope that bodes well.

Well, off to clean the house. How four people and an old lady dog accomadate so much junk I will never know*g*

Oh, and stop by Brenda Williamson’s group today! She’s having a huge Christmas Party with lots of fun, excerpts, recipes and prizes.
