And so, continued

Well, they were wrong. Her finger is broken, a small fracture, and we have to go to orthepedics next week for a consult. We spent most of the day with E at the hospital, not getting a decent Xray and then they decided to wrap it. E has a problem with anything new, so this was not a pleasant trip. To make matters worse, they wrapped it too tight the first time. Understandable because she was throwing a freaking fit the first time. The tech who handled it, Sgt Terry, was so gentle and understanding. I was ready to scream, but he just handled it without a problem. They fixed it when we went back, and she is pretty much back to her normal self.

Needless to say, since our appointment started at 9 and after returning home at noon and then going back in the afternoon, I have not had much time to write. But I am getting down to business right now.  And look at that hand. She will probably be the object of attention at school tomorrow and knowing her drama queen ways, she will probably relish it.

Poor little baby

And so…

Well, we had a rough night. E, my soon to be five year old, had a monitor fall on her hand. One of her fingers started swelling so Les decided to take her to the hospital. I am not good at hospitals, and our older daughter, A, has had a wicked head cold. I really hate hospitals and the kids can sense it. So, he goes to BAMC(Brooks Army Medical Center, where Denzel and a bunch of other celebrities are going to be today for a dedication and I did NOT get invited) she gets xrayed and four hours later, he left. Never saw a doc. There was no bruising, and she was acting fine. Plus, two ambulances came in while he was there. They didn’t get home until almost 10:30 last night.

So, she’s staying home today and he has to go meet with the developmental therapist about her further testing, she has some speech and social issues(hard to believe she is my daughter, huh?). I am going to try and write, but it will be interesting to see just how much I can get done with her here today.

Off to yell at A to get her rear in gear or she will miss the bus. And there really wasn’t much else to this post other than my whining I didn’t get invited to meet Denzel. Oh and post this pretty man flesh.

ahhhhhhh

A new review for FATES!

Tempting Fate is a rich, modern take on the Fates. The stories carry the distinct voices of each of the authors, yet there is a unity within the stories. The loves depicted are as diverse and pleasing as the Fates themselves. Together, they combine to create a work that tells a story in its entirety.

Sad Characters

For Kally, because she loves him

I think I have finally made a breakthrough. I was having problems working out some of the bumps in Lessons in Seduction, the second book in the Once Upon an Accident Series. Kally was reading a part of it tonight and said that Cecily was so sad. She hit the nail on the head and I think I realized what was holding me down.

I deal with smart asses and sarcastic characters, but I am not used to handling this part of the emotional curve so much. There is always some sadness in my books. A scene I wrote in ALHS for the rerelease made me actually cry when I read through it the first time. But Cecily and Douglas are both very lonely. Both are without their parents(a good thing actually) but they have never quite fit in. Douglas is accepted because he is a Duke, but he still feels as if he has no place. Cecily is not a social butterfly and prefers history to teas and ballgowns. But, she does have a wicked sense of humor, something I have been having fun with. She rarely shows it though.

These two need each other so badly, I think I was afraid I wasn’t giving a story that they deserved. But, it seems that I made a breakthrough tonight. Off to play with this one scene a bit more and then hitting the sack. Have a full day of writing and kids tomorrow. Sweet dreams.

I am not the biggest Chuck Hagel fan. But I have to say, I am pretty impressed with him lately. After listening to congress members bitch about having to work FIVE days a week, it is nice to see someone tell them to put up or shut up. I don’t care if they are R, D, I or the party of the purple people eaters. Someone has to take care of our troops, because no one has been vocal enough until now.

Baking Bread

January 24, 2007 by Melissa · Leave a Comment

I'm thinking I need a cooking partner like THISI decided to bake bread today. I have an off again/on again love affair with freshly made bread. I like to do it, but it doesn’t always turn out that great. It seemed to today, which can be bad because I have all kinds of plans for different types of bread now. When the weather is wet and cold, I tend to get in a baking or cooking mode. I love to cook, always have, and truly would prefer to cook every night. But with my schedule, it can be rough. It means putting back work another hour or two every night and since my day sometimes starts before 6 am, I can’t stay up that late.

But now I have all kinds of plans for bread baking. Tuscan loaf, whole wheat, rolls…My husband is very afraid, lol

Anyone have any good bread recipes they want to share?
