Music

April 30, 2008 by Melissa · 20 Comments

I love music, and it really inspires a lot of my writing. Raining on Sunday helped me with A Little Harmless Pleasure and You Know MY Name, inspired the idea behing Purgatory. I played the flute in HS, and can’t be in the car without some kind of nonchild noise. I grew up in the 70s, was part of the Madonna bad clothing choices of the 80’s, and now freak my kids out when I put on Donna Summer and sing. Well, mainly the 13 yr old and when I am picking her up in front of her friends.

So, what I want to know is if there is a song that brings back a memory for you? Is there something from your memory that is triggered by a song?
I have several. One is any Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons song. My dad used to crank the music on Saturday mornings and sing to it, and I remember listening to him. Then, there is Paul McCartney’s Silly Love Songs reminds me of one of the last trips we made when we lived in Germany. We went to Austria and the Black Forest and that was one of the most popular songs on Armed Forces Network. Now, more recently, You Are My Sunshine reminds me of being in the hospital right after having both kids, because it is one of the first songs I sang to each of them. Push by Sarah Mclachlan reminds me of my husband every time I hear it.

Don’t have to name it exactly right, but give me a song and the memory it inspires in the comments. More print books signed by me up for grabs.

ps, sorry I was late today. Had to run around for moving stuff today. Contest will run until NINE PM central.

Overnight Question

April 29, 2008 by Melissa · 22 Comments

Okay, so we are going to have this one go until 10 am central tomorrow morning:)
and just a note, I am kind collapsing into bed as soon as I post this. I hope you all will be patient with me as I will answer them tomorrow morning after the demon seeds go to school.

So, question, hmmm. Let’s play with series. When you read a series, do you like the romance to begin and end in one book, then have a completely different romance in the next one, or do you like books like Joey Hill’s Ice Queen and Mirror of My Soul?

In the offering, Grace Under Pressure, Lessons in Seduction or The Accidental Countess in print.

Witches

April 29, 2008 by Melissa · 18 Comments

So, I have a book semi-plotted for the first of a witch series. A whole family of them. But what I wanted to know is what kind of witches you like. Do you go for the light hearted Bewitched type, or do you like to have the witches fully immersed in the religion of Wiccan? Or does Harry Potter and the like float your boat?

Let me know which witch you like. And, authors, you are welcomed to answer too. Authors, editors, readers…name goes in the hat all the same.
Hmm, I think we will have to do some more prints for this one and I will run it until about five pm central. I am going to do an overnight contest tonight and that will make it easier. Oh and I need to write today.
Answer in the comments.
ohhh cool

Second Question

April 28, 2008 by Melissa · 8 Comments

Well, same rules, but this one, hmmm, I will give away your choice of ebook series collections:
A Little Harmless Sex and A Little Harmless Pleasure OR THe Accidental Countess and Lessons in Seduction

Real or Known Characters

One of the stories I have playing in the back of my head is one with Hawaiian Goddess Pele and I also did the Fate Luck in Tempting Fate anthology from Phaze. But, what I wanted to know is if this is a distraction or an addition to the books? Like, if a historical has Pres Lincoln or Queen Victoria, do you like that, or would you rather stay immersed in the fictional world? Do you like using well known Gods or Goddesses? Let me know.

Will draw a name at 8 central tonight.

Treat for me for finishing first projectSo, I have some stuff to give away. Lots of stuff. In fact, I am toying with the idea of sending out signed bookmarks to everyone who participates. Gotta look at my finances and see if I can afford the postage on that one. I think I will just do some discussion questions, easy enough to give me your opinion, right?
Gotta walk the dog and then I will post the first question.
