Web design

Two on one day, I KNOW. WTF is going on?
I am getting ready to redo my website. I think I have figured out how I want it to look, layout wise, with the books. But, I don’t know WTF to do with the template. Frauke from Croco Designs is going to be working on it this summer, and I don’t even know what colors I want to use!
So, you tell me, readers, authors, random spammers who try to post links to underaged sex. Okay, not the last group, but everyone else. What colors do you like, font, and how do you feel about naked men? I read a blog this week or last, or some time…I don’t remember. Anyway, the reader was complaining about naked men on the authors’ sites, so I wanted to ask you all. Also, are there any colors you don’t like?
Really off to write now.

I’m not big on the naked men on the website. I like to surf when I get a few minutes at work, and naked men are a big no-no at the office. Plus, I don’t want my kids walking in when I’m just looking at an author site only to see me looking at naked men. I like to do that on my own time, LOL.
All I want in an author site is a well-organized way to look at their book list, synopses and excerpts, up-to-date listings, and a blog (if they have one). Show me that series books are connected and in what order to read them.
I’m not big on all the bells and whistles – flash sites drive me crazy, plus they can slow down the site.
Something that’s easily readable is great. I don’t care for the really dark colors too much. Adjustable font size is great, but if you don’t have that option, then a nice readable font such as arial or verdana is good.

Lori,
Thanks for the input. I don’t know what I want on it right now. I can’t stand having a site for more than a year, but with this design, I am going to try and go longer so I want something that will last.
Let’s see, the neekid man pics don’t bother me though I would prefer more content with the occasional pic. It doesn’t even have to be nekkid, just inspirational. Know what I mean.
I do blog as you know and I just use blogger and tend to change it up quite a lot. I prefer the earthy colors to look at. Colors that blend well and don’t make my eyes bug out. No neon or super bright colors. They stand out and kinda just scream at you.
One of the first things I look at on an author site is the book list. Is it easy to find? Does it show connected books and what order to read in even if that could be read as a stand alone? Book cover pics and excerpts? I think that is the basic stuff.
I hate when you click a link that makes you click 5 more just to get at the book you want to see.
