Thank a Vet
November 11, 2006 by Melissa
Being a military wife and brat, this day is especially important to me. And a little added fact, both my grandfathers served in the Pacific during WWII. I get asked a lot about my feelings on things in Iraq, and I always give my true feelings on the matter. They’ve been the same from the beginning. But, being the daughter of a Vietnam Vet, I am always careful to remind people, military men and women take an oath to serve. And in this, even if they disagree with any invasion, action, etc, they serve their country, and some make the ulitimate sacrifice. No matter what political crap our leaders in this country throw around, our men and women are set to serve to protect. They don’t choose where to go, they just do their job. When Christmas isn’t right around the corner, and things are sort of normal here, many people forget about our Veterans…and those serving today who will become veterans one day. But today, we honor them, the ones who served and came home, those who never made it home…and I believe their families for their sacrifice. To me, the only other days more important are Memorial day and July 4th. So thank a vet for their service, or their families if the service member is unfortunately no longer with us.
So, from what I stole from the AF website, here is a little photo journey through history.

And, know what they go through, why so many returning Vets want to do something, anything to fix Iraq, watch it to the end so you can get the quote about hope:

Wonderfully said, Melissa. Thank you.
I got all sad and weepy when I wrote it and that hardly ever happens. I thought it would, you now like in Romancing the Stone, but I think my characters are too sarcastic. lol
Thanks, Cathy
