Thursday Thirteen #2

March 15, 2007 by Melissa

For my second week, I went easy and came up with 13 reasons why I love being a romance author:

1. Books, videos and sex toys are all tax deductible.

2. I can work in my pajamas, legally.

3. When people come to my door at noon and I am still in those pajamas, I can claim to be working, even if I am not.

4. I can be a hard assed bounty hunter who kicks the bad guy’s butt and still get the not so good guy in bed(admit it, we like our heroes to be a little bad).

5. Internet surfing is considered research.

6. Looking for half nekkid man pictures for my blog is considered work.

7. No matter how awful the real world is, my people always live happily ever after.

8. I can take out my frustrations on people in a completely passive agressive way by killing them off in my books.

9. Anything beats cleaning the house or doing laundry.

10. There are other genres outside of romance? GET OUT OF TOWN.

11. I like using terms like POV, GMC, and my absolute favorite, SEXUAL TENSION, to make people think I know more than they do.

12. Romance editors are much nicer than other genres’ editors.

13. LOVE SCENE RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you comment, I will list your name and blog:)

I don’t think there is a better job in the world, well besides reading all the great romance books.

    Wylie,
My husband is military and he has other words they use for POV, lol. It can get confusing when we discuss work

:::blushing::::I have actually done it once. Better than killing them in person, and I did threaten my hsuband’s boss when he got him stuck in Denver over Christmas. I think I said something about having him be a transvestite bisexual hooker who got killed.

    Hey Becka,
yeah, one of my old writing buddies from college asked why. Why would I sell out. First, I pointed out that I did not sell out, that I am better at romacne, and I WANT A HAPPY ENDING! too much bad stuff in the world, I want some happiness:)

  10. Angela James on March 15th, 2007 4:11 pm

Many of those apply to being an editor as well. I especially love that books are research!

  11. Melissa on March 15th, 2007 5:56 pm

yeah, I can see that. I had to be a writer because I SOOOO suck at editing. Years of tutoring fried my brain, lol

romance writers are the nicest writers! Well said and soooo true.

Sex toys are tax deductible. Really? How come I didn;t know about this. Better tell DH so we can get some to use for a write off. I can just see my 60 yr old tax accountants face. HEHEHE
