Overnight Question

Okay, so we are going to have this one go until 10 am central tomorrow morning:)
and just a note, I am kind collapsing into bed as soon as I post this. I hope you all will be patient with me as I will answer them tomorrow morning after the demon seeds go to school.

So, question, hmmm. Let’s play with series. When you read a series, do you like the romance to begin and end in one book, then have a completely different romance in the next one, or do you like books like Joey Hill’s Ice Queen and Mirror of My Soul?

In the offering, Grace Under Pressure, Lessons in Seduction or The Accidental Countess in print.

  1. For me it depends entirely on the story, author, characters. Sometimes I like a continuation of the story and sometimes I like something a little different, but related.

  2. Hey! I was the first commenter! :) Yay me (I’m not sure why this makes me happy but it does LOL)

  3. HI Melissa! Hmmm it all depends on the feel of the story..if it is a good historical with the girl putting up a fight and then miraciously they kiss and get all erotic then I like it to end there. But if it is a book full of twists, turns, scandals and secrets I like it to go on as long as possible :)
Have a great night sweetie! Hugs, Crystal

  4. If the books are connected, I like the romances to be self-contained. I cut my series teeth on Suz Brockmann’s SEAL books, so I like that model: a new hero with each book, but cameos of past couples in the new books.

  5. I’m one for instant gratification… so, yes, I’m one of those who loves their romance to start and end in one book of a series. I’ll read the other type, but it’s not my preference :)

  6. I like to read both. I prefer reading a romance that starts and ends in one book of a series. I also like it when couples make appearances in new books of a series.

The only thing I don’t like about romances that are continued in another book is that you usually have to wait so long for the next book to be released. I hate to wait to find out what’s going to happen! :)

  7. It’s not a hard and fast preference for me. Some of my favorite series do it both ways, and can totally work for me when the characters are strong, well fleshed out, with compelling storylines. It does tend to be more satisfying when a romance is resolved in one book, especially when subsequent books come out annually, but Joey Hill’s stories are a great example of being totally worth the wait.

  8. I want each book in a series to run in it’s entirety w/in each book. I don’t recall reading any other layout of a series.

  9. I’m an impatient person, so I’ve always disliked cliffhanger endings (like for television serieses, for instance), SO I prefer my romances self-contained. (And like Annalisa and Cathy M said, I hate having to wait too long between books–I prefer to wait until I have the entire series before I start, if possible.) I love connected books, but I like each one to have its own HEA, and then I like meeting a new couple in the next book and then revisiting the connections/community/etc. in smaller ways.

  10. Hmmm. That’s a good question!

I’m really not partial to just one way. Like others have said, it really depends on the story and the characters for me.

  11. In a series, I like reading about a different couple in each book, but I do enjoy cameos from characters in previous books.

  12. I usually like for them to begin and end in one book, then start like with a friend or family member in the next one. I can’t wait to read them if they keep going in each book. I do like to see the characters in the next book but can be different heroine and hero.

  13. I think it’s a combination of the two. Sometimes a book is so good that I absolutely hav to know what happens later on,meaning I want it to go on and on. Other times, I’m okay of it ends when it ends. A lot just depends on the story.

Hope you were able to get some rest!

  14. Melissa, I definitely want to have a particular couple’s story have a HEA in just one book. If I have to wait
months for the ‘rest of the story’, it loses a lot of the ‘feel’ that made it a page turner. I do however enjoy having this couple make an appearance in the other books as a happy couple or before they are a couple.

  15. I want to have it all in one book. I need that HEA! Then, in connected books for the couples to make cameo appearances.

  16. I don’t mind reading both types. I like to read romance to begin and end in one book…and maybe start with another one would be cool to start the next book in the series. I also don’t mind starting with another main character. I haven’t read Joey’s books, so I can’t say for sure since I don’t know the writing style.

by Amelia on April 30th, 2008 at 2:31 am

  17. HI Melissa,
I prefer the ones that begin and end in the same book. It’s nice to be introduced towhats going to happen in the next book, but not so much so you HAVE to WAIT to see what happens next. :)

    Hugs, Danette

  18. Good morning!

I LOVE series books but definitely prefer that each romance comes together by the end of the book. And then a new romance start with the next book (with peeks into the lives of the couple(s) from earlier in the series). I also like it best when there is only a little bit of the next character’s story in the current book. A little bit of a teaser - but not too much because then I don’t have patience to wait until the next book comes out!

  19. Hi Melissa!

I love series and I prefer that each romance begins and ends in one book. I really enjoy seeing the characters again living happily ever after in other books in the series.

  20. First off let me say Thank You for your amazing books! I personally prefer the realationship to begin and end in one book and just keep mentioning little tidbits here and there in connected books, just so we keep in touch with them. Have a wonderful day!

  21. I like differnt novels put together, sometimes its nice to see where else the author can go. for instance I just read a phaze anthology and it was neat that the stories were so diverse. made me think.
