Guilty Pleasures

You’re having a bad day. The boss has told you that you are working this weekend, you backed into a cop car, and the cat has been arrested for indecent exposure. So, what do you do to escape? Do you like to go to Bennigan’s have have Death by Chocolate? Do you schedule a pedicure? Do you watch your favorite violent movie to live through the character without killing all your acquaintances?

Let me know by 5 pm today and you can have your choice of print books signed by me:)

  1. Hi Mel,

at the moment I don’t have a bad day, but bad months. It seems that everything goes wrong since the beginning of the year. The only thing that keeps me from going crazy are books and chocolate, plus the knowledge that I will be in the States in three month

  2. I go out for a nice dinner with husband and then curl up in bed with a good book.

by CrystalGB on May 1st, 2008 at 7:27 am

  3. I grab a bag of almond M&Ms and watch a movie I’m not picky which movie and I turn off the phone.

  4. I read.

  5. Since I supposedly have the weekends off, I treat myself to a nice quiet hotel room, bring all my favorite snacks and drinks (some even alcoholic), call home once, and read, read, read until check-out on Sunday. Oh, and I thank the heavens that I have family in the hotel industry and I can get a BIG discount!

  6. I sit in front of the TV until my mood changes.

  7. I read, then I read and finally I read some more.

  8. I go shopping… especially for more books and chocolates… if it’s an especially bad day, week, or month… well, then we must go for Godiva Rum Truffles ;)

  9. Two cups, a tea kettle–two packages hot chocolate. Heat, stir, set on the coffee table, fall into my husband’s arms and let the misery fade away!!!
    Always works for me!!!

  10. When things go wrong, I try to immerse myself in a compelling story. If I have not started a book and do not think I can fully concentrate, I will watch one of the Lord of the Rings movies. Seeing everything they had to endure seems to help me face my own challenging problems.

  11. Usually I’ll grab my MP3 player and take the dogs for a really long walk. But that’s not really a guilty pleasure. A guilty pleasure would be shopping — preferably for shoes.

  12. My guilty pleasure…A long hot bath with a book and the iPod behind a locked door so no one can bother me. When I can’t take the time for that, a glass of Bailey’s is nice.

Mel, you don’t have to enter me. I have your books already. :)

  13. I take a nice hot bath, read tons of books, eat a lot of chocolate and watch my favorite romantic movies!

by Stefanie D on May 1st, 2008 at 9:39 am

  14. I get rip-roaring-drunk. :D

No, seriously, I sit and watch tv or just go to bed to forget it all for a while.

by Cindy on May 1st, 2008 at 9:39 am

  15. Read, preferably with chocolate and ice cream in hand…

Wow, I didn’t know my cat could be arrested for such things… Maybe I’d better go check out his wardrobe… ;)

  16. I pick out one of my favorite books to curl up in bed and read with my cat warming my feet. (My kitty wouldn’t be caught outside, much less outside and indecently exposed…lmbo!)

  17. Wow - how appropriate for the struggles that have peppered my family for over a year.

What I have done has alternated from severe tears while talking with my mother, to watching a movie to escape, reading a book alone to disappear into another world, or going out with friends and having a drink or two or more.

I think my favorite escape has been to play a game with the children, their smiles can always help!

    Thank you, Jeannette

  18. My favorite escape is to snag a mocha frappacino and a good book, and to hole up in my room, door closed, for a couple of hours. A great story and a people-free zone works wonders for de-stressing.

  19. If I’m not reading, my guilty pleasure is losing myself in the computer world of The Sims. I get to manipulate the characters and if I’m in a pissy mood, strange things will happen to them. :) I love playing God with that game.

  20. I close myself in my bedroom and watch tv ahows that I have Tivo’d. Then, I read a little. If that hasn’t helped, I take a hot bath and read some more!

  24. A long soak in a hot sudsy tub with a good book, some form of chocolate, and mood music helps me when I have a bad day.

by Christina on May 1st, 2008 at 2:16 pm

  25. I grab a glass of iced tea, a good book, some kind of chocolate snack and go out and sit in my porch swing and read.

by JOYE on May 1st, 2008 at 2:38 pm

  26. I would drink some alcohol and lie on the couch, or better yet I could go get a massage.

    by cyclops8 on May 1st, 2008 at 3:31 pm

  27. I have to agree with most of the others - a good book is the perfect escape after a horrendous day! Add some ice cream and things get even better :)

by Karen C on May 1st, 2008 at 3:47 pm

  28. Grab a bag of peanut butter M&Ms, some tea (hot or iced, depending on the weather), a frozen gel pack for my neck (very relaxing), and a sexy book, then curl up in my favorite reading chair for a good story and maybe a quick nap!

by Kay Sturm on May 1st, 2008 at 3:47 pm

  29. I tend to walk out to the huge old walnut tree and watch the pastures, woods and sky till I can return to my centered place inside. Watching the cows, horses, wild rabbits, and hawks are reminders life is amazing.

by Yvonne on May 1st, 2008 at 4:02 pm

  30. I play computer or video games. Blowing up monsters really improves my mood. LOL

  32. Ahhh…it does seem like lately that I’ve had more than my share of BAD days, sigh. When I have a really hairy one, I just want to curl up in my bed with my fluffy pillows, a mug of hot tea, and a great read…depending on how depressed I am, that’s how I choose what I read, lol. Will it be a comfort read?? Will it be something from my TBR? Or will it be somthing I’ve just picked up?? It always picks me up!!
