“Not this time. I have an incentive to stay in town.” His voice was low, intense, and there was no mistaking what he meant. He’d come to a decision. This was a battle he didn’t intend to lose. The time had come and she needed to understand.
She was his.
Her back still faced him, but he saw a definite change in her stance. It was slight, and if he hadn’t been watching her so intently he might have missed it. She understood exactly what he meant.
Instead of responding however, she muttered something about finding her shoes.
“Jade? I have your shoes.” His words forced her to turn around. He held out flat sandals, which she took wordlessly.
“Thanks,” she mumbled, but wouldn’t meet his gaze. She fumbled around in her purse for her keys.
“Aren’t you going to ask me what my incentive is?” He wanted – no needed – her to ask.
Maybe she already knew the answer. The past couple days, hell, years, had been building up to this moment. She might not be prepared for the truth, but it was coming out anyway. He was sick of carrying this burden.
“What is it?” Long, heavy lashes lifted and their gazes collided. The question came out as a whisper and almost seemed to stick in her throat.
“You.” The word hung in the air, suspended by an invisible string.

After being widowed at a young age, Jade Hadley is tired of her nun-like existence and is determined to add a little excitement and romance into her life again. She gets more than she bargained for when she’s inadvertently involved in an international drug ring, and some scary men decide she needs to die. As if that isn’t bad enough, her deceased husband’s, sexy best friend admits his long time attraction to her.
Security expert David McIntyre is in love with Jade, and has been from the moment they met. Unfortunately for him, that was the week she married his best friend. For years, he’s stayed silent, giving her time to mourn. When he discovers she’s dating again, all bets are off. Seducing her isn’t the problem, convincing her that what they have together isn’t purely physical however, is. It might even prove to be a bigger challenge than trying to keep her alive.

Okay, so I do so many contests I sometimes forget just which ones I am doing but this one is going to be ongoing.
Regular visitors on this blog know that I am writing my first single title I have attempted in about three years, the start of a new series, The Black Diamond. BUT, I need motivation. With the move, the kids home, and all that, it is hard to find time and I sometimes find myself slipping. So, I need some help from you all:)
I am going to check in every week on my word count, and for every 5 K I am giong to draw a name for a book. I have a word counter on the sidebar–which I will be updating later today–and I will updated it through the week. If you would like to win a book from me, you need to email me at MelissaATmelissaschroederDOTnet. Tell me your choice of book, your location, and your name.(I will use first names and last intials, along with location to announce the winners. It can be print or digital, but it has to still be in print to be included. That way I can be sure to get the right books and have them on hand:) I will email you back within 48 hours of getting your entry. Please put 5K CONTEST in the subject line.
You only have to enter once for the duration of the contest.
UPDATE:
The next drawing will be at 30K, since I am sitting at or right about 25K. I hope it will happen before next weekend so keep your eyes peeled. Also, be sure to tell me PRINT or DIGITAL for the book
SECOND UPDATE:
Yeah, I had a migraine yesterday so I did leave some things out. The drawing is for any of MY books, not others, lol. Also, I will include Leather and Lace and Hunting Mila inthe drawings, but it will be Sept before I can send them:)

Coming in Nov! I really like this time period but there has been so little covered about other countries. It also looks like just a beautiful film, so I am planning on seeing it on the big screen.

So, I am behind, as usual. I am rewriting and rewriting chapter two(gotta up that sexual tension) and tore out some scenes. The new scenes are actually making it longer, lol. That is the first time that has happened. I am also contemplating a contest for readers to keep me going. Keep an eye out for that this weekend.
I have to say that as a writer, I think I knew this book was going to test my limits, and that is why I have held off writing it. Stupid and a bit lazy. But, as painful as it has been, I think I am pushing myself into another level of writing. It hurts almost physically to do it. Still, I think this is going to make me a better writer, mainly thanks to Shelley Bradley. She has been nice enough to bang my head to get it done.
In other news, I finally signed up for Google Reader. I have all my friends, and several reader blogs set up so I can see if they posted anything for the day. I hope it helps keep me up to date with my buds and what books everyone is reviewing on their blogs.
Well, I am off to find some NEKKID pics for birthday celebrations.
